Urgent needs in severe fluid imbalances must be met parenterally. Kinderlyte should be discontinued when the diarrhea has ceased. Kinderlyte does not meet the caloric requirements of infants and children. Additional food or formula should be given as instructed by the physician. The AAP Committee on Nutrition recommends that in the absence of specific contraindications, reintroduction of human milk or formula feedings should not be delayed morethan 24 hours in the infant with acute diarrhea. CONTRAINDICATIONS
Knderlyte should not be used In the presence of severe,continuingdiarrhea or other critical fluid losses .In intractable vomiting, icileus, intestinal obstruction, or perforated bowel.When renal function is depressed (anuria, oliguria) or homeostatic mechanisms are impaired. |
